Work your arse off...

I'm not sure if this post makes me sound like a narky, moody individual or not but it's something I've wanted to write about for quite a while. Not even necessarily write about, just talk about really. You may have noticed in my 'Them Ones Which Inspire Me' post that most of my inspirations inspire me because of the amount of hard work and effort they put into what they create. And that's exactly what I want to talk about- hard work.
Last week was my college's mock exam week and I think that may have been the final push for me to write this post. The exams weren't particularly pleasant- as expected- but all questions in all the papers I sat were answerable. Everything in the paper had been taught to us and, if you'd done your bit of revision, they were all passable. However, upon leaving the exam hall the amount of comments I head from people, complaining about how difficult they were and how they hadn't been taught the subject content well enough was unreal. I've been sat in the exact same classroom as the rest of these people, as have most of my friends, and we all found it perfectly fine. So why are these people any different? Clearly someone hasn't done their revision and is trying to find any reason that isn't their own fault to excuse their lack of commitment and dedication to their subjects. I'm not saying you have to sit for hours on end, revising, testing yourself, going to extra classes, spending your entire weekends working away like a little hermit crab. I'm not saying that at all. But why is a couple of hours every other evening so difficult to cram into your busy schedule of TV watching, crisp eating and internet scrolling.

I know what it's like to be busy. And to be tired. And to feel like you don't have much spare time at all. Some days I don't finish work until around midnight then have to sort all other life things to sort out- uni, money, cleaning, replying to emails etc. but I still found the time to fit in a few hours a week to do sufficient revision needed in order to get some decent grades.

If you're one of those people who comes out of an exam, hasn't revised and admits you've not. That's fine. If you have revised, yet still don't do great. That's fine too. I'm specifically annoyed at those who don't work hard but who won't accept responsibility for it. The rest of you are fine.

I must sound like a really patronizing head teacher now (I'm so sorry) but those grades stay with you for life. A few members of my family and close friends have had to do access courses and pay for all sorts of classes to try and get the job they want and every single one of them has told me they wish they'd just put in the effort a few years ago and now, they'd be in a much better position.

I just wish I had enough confidence to turn round to those who complain and blame the whole world but themselves, and tell them to get off their lazy arse and do a day's work for once in their lives.

I feel I've been too negative in this post to justify adding a 'Cheerio! Xxx' on the end but I'm going to do it anyway because it's a tradition now ^.^

  3. I totally agree with this! I am by no means one of the most acedmeic in my English literature class, yet I was one of the only to revise, and I ended up with the highest grade! 1% motivation, 99% perspiration!
