THE BRITS 2015

Considering it's music post Friday and The Brit Awards happened this week, surely it'd be rude to not discuss it? Being a big music fan, for me this is normally one of the most exciting nights of the year for me but I have to say, this year wasn't that great...
After realising it was 5 to 8, I had to quickly gather my snacks and a cup of tea before crashing on the bed, ready to spend the next 2 hours 20 minutes singing along to some of my most favourite music artists.

The show opened with Taylor Swift and I feel her performance was a metaphor for the entire night. It wasn't awful, I necessarily want to turn it off but everything was just very mediocre. It was flat (not the vocals, just the performance) and didn't make me want to get up and dance and join in. I love Taylor and seeing her perform usually fills me with joy- I just didn't feel enthused as she flung her cute bob and classic red lip round the stage in a sea of glittery snow bubbles. I had really high expectations for the whole evening and it was all rather average.

On a more positive note, I do think most of the awards went to the right people. Obviously I was so happy for Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith but it was clear they were going to be successful with the awards that evening. Despite the rather long speech, the artist I genuinely felt the most joy and happiness for was Paloma Faith. Not only does she seem to be a truly wonderful person, she works her absolute arse off and believes in genuine hard work and putting in effort which, for me, is something I am incredibly passionate about. During her MASSIVE speech, she thanked the 'grafters' and told stories about how she's been arrested twice just trying to get her work out there. She's a remarkable woman and I'm made up she's finally gotten the recognition she deserves.

Something I do have to comment on though, is those people who make many comments about how acts such as One Direction and 5SOS aren't "real music" and how therefore they don't deserve awards. Personally, I'm not a huge 1D fan, but I don't think it's really fair to kick off massively when they win a Brit that's been publicly voted for on social network sites. Yes, it can be frustrating, particularly if their video wasn't even that good, but what did you expect? Did you really think anyone else was going to walk away with that award? I was even angrier upon seeing comments made about how a particular person was happy that Foo Fighters won Best International Band 'only because it meant 5SOS didn't'. 5SOS are a non-British band who have achieved remarkable success so why don't they deserve to be up? Not everybody has to like/listen to rock music- it should be the only respected genre. Stop being so bloody miserable, lighten up and be happy for other people's success for once in your life- okay?

Speaking of rock music, how good were Royal Blood?! During the show I was writing notes for this post and during their performance all I have written is 'YASSSS' and drawn a heart. They were so good I just didn't have any words to describe them and honestly, I still don't. You know when an act is so good, they sound almost better than the original track. Yeah, that! They were incredible

I don't have much else to say. Kanye was mad as always but really I expected nothing less.

I hope you enjoyed both the BRITs and this post!
