How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful

A short while ago, I wrote about a whole load of albums and music that I want but can't afford. Considering exam stress and general crapiness, it felt only right to treat myself to Florence and the Machine's new album. Plus, I write a music blog so it's just research, right?!
I'm not going to write about each individual song, because that's boring and if I'm 100% honest, I've not listened to every song properly because I've lost my headphones and, as we all know, music sounds better with headphones. But I have had the entire album on whilst revising so I think I've got a pretty good feel to the sound and the songs. If this goes horribly wrong, I'll rewrite something better when exams are finished- okay?

First thing I noticed, it's very different. But good different. Different in a way that my ears perked up when I first heard it and I was intrigued as to what this new mystery sound was. Obviously, it's vaguely still the recognizable 'Florence' sound that we all know and love, but compared to past albums, it's almost as though they've matured- much less haunting and theatrical than Lungs and Ceremonials. It's beautifully demure and calming and I just know I'm going to fall even further in love, the more I listen.

I still think so highly of 'What Kind of Man', but I have a real soft spot for 'St Jude' and 'Queen of Peace'. Also, 'Long & Lost' sends shivers to places I didn't even know existed! Of course this is going to change by tomorrow because my music taste changes more often than *I can't think of anything that changes really frequently so feel free to insert your own pun here*

Anyway, all in all, a wonderful album, Truly magical and it's so good to have them back. If you haven't bought it, do it now! And let me know which are your favourite songs and which is your favourite Florence and the Machine album.
