The Internet

As you may have gathered, by the fact I've not shut up about it, our WiFi is broken. I'm not one of those people who can't live without the internet- often we go to the countryside for walks and pubs and out in the wilderness of Yorkshire, the internet does not exist and I cope fine. But I've massively noticed, now that I don't have easy internet access, how much other people rely on me having the internet. And this really sucks...
I'll start off by briefly explaining why the internet is so awful at the moment.. We were with a company who, I won't name, but will tell you that they rhyme with Walk Walk and the connection just really wasn't great. You couldn't stream videos without excessive buffering and if more than 2 people were using the internet at once, it would just completely give up. So we decided to switch to another company- which sounds like Me Tea. We were promised to be taken off Walk Walk and connected to Me Tea on the same day. Unfortunately this didn't happen due to 'line faults' and we were PROMISED WiFi in the next 3 days. Did that happen? Of course not. After many phone calls with engineers, providers and downright twonks who all seem to blame one another, we're still none the wiser. Yet again we've been promised to be connected by tomorrow but I think you and I both know that's not going to really happen... The only way I can get a strong enough connection at the moment is by sitting, literally in the corner of the house and connecting to the real crap 'open reach' zone that seems to be situated somewhere down the road from us. It's a nightmare, and one I hope will be sorted very soon- especially as it means I can't check out the links to your blogs that you leave in the comments without my laptop just giving up! (Please do keep leaving links in the comments though because I do genuinely check out at least a couple of posts from every single one of you)

Right, anyway- being internet reliant! I'm fine living without proper WiFi for a few days- it doesn't bother me that I can't read every single Twitter post or check out all the Buzzfeed articles. But most of those around me are so reliant on the fact that I have internet connection- and currently, it's just not possible. Take college for example, I study French (leave a comment in French if you are/can speak French so I can practice ^.^ ) and use online translators a lot. This isn't because I'm awful at it and need help with every word, or because I'm too ignorant to use a dictionary, but because, as in English, there's a lot of slang/colloquialisms and dictionaries aren't self-updating. As expected, I was set French work on Thursday, due in for Tuesday which is all fine. Except, I was promised internet by this weekend- when I planned on doing this work. I don't have lessons on a Monday (our college has study days where we work from home one day a week) so I haven't been able to use the library in college, and it's one of my first lessons tomorrow so I won't have time before lessons to complete the work to the standard I wish and to the level expected from me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all lazy- far from it. I've put stuff together, but it's just not quite up to my standards that I set myself and I feel both disappointed in myself and frustrated at the internet providers for breaking ALL their promises.

I've got a load of these examples- there's important emails I've not been able to send and messages I've been super late to reply to. And it's not like I can tell these people that I have acknowledged their message but can't reply because they live blooming miles away! This whole 'technology based world' sucks and I don't wish to be part of it.. (she says whilst typing out a blog post on her laptop, listening to music she downloaded from iTunes yesterday)

  3. Bad to hear that. Hope the 'internet' hurries up. For this, within these times I thought that the development of technology would make everything easier. Guess I'm wrong. Anyway, take care and hopefully your tutors will understand.

    1. It's all sorted now! But thanks for your concern ^.^ I couldn't use the library because of the security I have on my emails- I can only access them from certain IP addresses xx
